This year in an effort to educate the
future generation of city employees and our summer (intern) staff
members. The City of Columbia Public Works Department scheduled tours of
city projects and city wide departments. These weekly tours were guided
by senior staff members, each tour explained current projects and how
the city operates on a daily bases, each Friday new staff members and
summer staff toured selected city projects and facilities.
Our goal for the 2013 summer tours -
- Our focused of the tours was on our current customer training program, the importance of interdepartmental relationships to function as a city and the importance of good communication with the public and staff.
- The tours were designed to help new staff develop skills and techniques directly applicable to their careers here at the city or in their (intern staff) futures jobs.
- Staff members gave a full and overall view of projects and the true meaning of public service to the community.
