KOMU News Article

KOMU-TV explores Columbia's crumbling stormwater infrastructure.

At the end of the newscast they mention the potential for a utility rate increase.  For reference, Columbia's current monthly stormwater utility charges:

$0.65 per unit          multi-family bldgs (4+ units)
or single family residence with main floor area less than 750 sf

$0.85 per unit          mult-family bldgs (less 4 units)
or single family residence with main floor area 750 sf to 1,250 sf

$1.15 per unit         single family residence with main floor area 1,251 sf to 2,000 sf

$1.35 per unit         single family residence with main floor area more than 2,000 sf

All non-residential uses of developed land:
$4.00 or $0.04 per 100 sf of impervious area, whichever is greater

For residential customers, a 100% increase in the monthly charge over the course of a year would equal the cost of 2 to 5 gallons of gasoline (or an increase of $7 to $16 per year).

The Columbia City Council recently defeated an ordinance to bring a rate increase to the voters on August 2.
